Vinyl (V) or Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). Vinyl containers and film, manufactured from PVC resins, are not widely used in consumer packaging; however, they are used for some jars and bottles as well as for some meat wraps.

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). LDPE is used in garbage bags, shopping bags, kitchen catchers, vegetable and bread bags, some bottles and many brands of food wraps and bags.

Polypropylene (PP). PP is widely used for packaging dairy products such as cottage cheese, yogurt and margarine, as well as baby bottles and food storage containers.

Polystyrene (PS) is both a foam used for hot deli take-out trays and containers, hinged and two piece containers, meat trays and coffee cups; and, a rigid clear plastic used for drinking glasses, transparent hinged and two piece containers for prepared foods and bakery goods.

'Other plastics'. These are plastics used in plastic packaging which do not fit into the above noted 6 categories. 'Other plastics' can be a mixture or layers of different plastics which provide unique properties such as extending the shelf life of products. Examples of code 7 plastics, which are not polycarbonate (PC), include: squeezable ketchup bottles, 3 quart/2.84 litre plastic orange juice jugs, the bag containing wine in boxed wine, or films for deli and prepared meats, poultry or fish products.
