Acetal

plasticsengineering.jpg Acetal, first developed in the late 1950s, is available as a homopolymer (such as DuPont Delrin®) or copolymer (suchas Ticona's Celcon®).

Delrin® resins offer superior mechanical properties including high strength and rigidity over a broad temperature range, toughness and resistance to repeated impact and good electrical insulation. The resins are used extensively in injection molding and offer excellent thermal stability, fast cycle time and low mold and screw deposit. The resins have superior dimensional stability, long-term creep resistance,long-term fatigue resistance and excellent resistance to moisture, chemicals, solvents and fuels.

Delrin® bridges the gap between metals and ordinary plastics with a unique combination of strength, stiffness, hardness, dimensional stability, toughness, fatigue resistance, solvent and fuel resistance, abrasion resistance, low wear and low friction.

Properties and Characteristics
The chemical composition, regular molecular structure and high degree of crystallinity result in a unique combination of outstanding characteristics of Delrin® acetal resins not found in metals or most other plastics:
• High mechanical strength and rigidity
• Toughness and high resistance to repeated impacts
• Long-term fatigue endurance
• Excellent resistant to moisture, gasoline, solvents, and many other chemicals of neutral pH
• Excellent dimensional stability
• Good resilience and resistance to creep
• Natural lubricity
• Wide end-use temperature range
• Good electrical insulating characteristics
